The Poetry Professor badge indicates that the student has acquired a mastery level of skill in designing and conducting a poetry club meeting including presenting and guiding club members through an engaging experience with a high-quality selected poem, including discussion questions and dynamic dialogue including literary analysis and personal connection and meaning-making. The poetry experience and analysis is followed up by the student leading the club in an innovative writing activity that includes the opportunity for students to share before the meeting concludes and/or at an upcoming meeting.

Criteria

1. [required] Select a high-quality poem after reviewing 4-5 sources and 10-15 poems.
2. [required] Annotate and analyze the selected poem for all FISSSTTAP elements.
3. [required] Student will create 5-8 high quality discussion questions along with possible/exemplar responses to guide the poetry club's discussion of the poem.
4. [required] Student will present his/or her dramatic interpretation/reading of the selected poem and guide the audience in discussing the poem using the questions prepared in advance.
5. [required] Student must design and facilitate an engaging writing activity with club meeting participants, followed by the opportunity for students to share their work.
6. [required] Students can plan for and facilitate an entire one-hour club meeting from beginning to end, including an engaging introductory activity, reading, discussion and analysis one of more poems, a writing activity, a sharing time and a concluding statement or activity.
