EAGLE Scholars is made up of a very ethnically and culturally diverse group of 7th-12th graders, all of whom are focused on college as their goal. The Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation and the EAGLE Scholars program is designed to help them overcome systemic barriers to develop the skills they already have and acquire the ones they need in order to help them successfully navigate the educational system. EAGLE Scholars accomplishes this by utilizing the approach of John Dewey, which believes that learning must be relevant and students must be invested in their learning. This Interview Badge works with Scholars on their Confidence and Presentation skills and connects them with seasoned professionals in the workplace in order to complete a Mock Interview before participating in an actual interview that will determine where they will attend high school. Scholars develop their Confidence by practicing making eye contact and speaking with a strong voice that is audible to interviewers and communicates a knowledge about themselves and their goals. Scholars develop their Presentation Skills by organizing their thoughts around the STAR interviewing approach and practicing their verbal skills to speak confidently about their skills and talents. In EAGLE Scholars, we believe that by assisting our Scholars in developing the 21st Century Learning Skills of Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Critical thinking, and Digital Citizenship, our Scholars will be more prepared to unlock the potential that already resides within them.

Criteria

1. [required] Write a story for at least four of the STAR prompts and share with Intern at least 7 days before the interview.
2. [required] Research Business Attire, assemble an outfit from your closet, and upload a picture at least 7 days before the interview.
3. [required] Meet with Intern to review STAR questions and Interview attire at least 5 days before the interview.
4. [required] Wear appropriate business attire to the interview.
5. [required] Reflect on interview using the worksheet in the Interview Portfolio
6. Email thank you note within 24 hours after the interview.
