Acting 204 -- Gear Up to Perform: The Mouth!
Big Thought
Warming up is an essential part of a performance, much like stretching before an athletic event. Whether you are speaking in a play, performing a poem, or singing in a musical, opera, or pop concert, it is important that you know how to warm up the voice and body properly. It is also important that performers find the types of warm-up exercises that best suit them in preparation for a performance.
For this step, you’ll warm up your mouth. Before any performance, it’s important to prepare your mouth for speaking the words out loud.
- Hum low to high and high to low. At the same time make chewing motions with your mouth while keeping it closed.
- Blow out your lips while still make low to high noises and then high to low.
- Time for tongue twisters!
- The lips, the teeth, the tip of the tongue, the tip of the tongue, the teeth, the lips.
- A box of biscuits, a box of mixed biscuits, and a biscuit mixer.
Write a sentence explaining how it felt to focus on your lips and the formation of these sounds. What did you do to improve on these exercises?
